The parking brake (also known as emergency brake) cable is a steel cable that is very thin. It connects the parking brake lever to the parking brake shoes. This pulls on the parking brake shoes, and causes them to clamp on the rear brake drums or rotors. This clamping causing keeps your wheels from being able to move, and secures your car when it is parked. If the parking brake cable becomes too loose, then the tension created by pulling the parking brake lever isn\u2019t enough to move the parking brake shoes. As a result, when you pull the parking brake lever, the parking brake will not work effectively.
