How it's done:

\n- Park the vehicle on a level surface
\n- Allow the engine to idle
\n- Shift the gear through all positions slowly
\n- Place the transmission in park or neutral depending on manufacturer\u2019s requirements while the car remains idling
\n- Slowly remove the transmission dipstick as it may be hot
\n- Note where the level is marked near its end.
\n- Insert the dipstick fully back inside its tube, then remove it and read the level.
\n- Be sure not to overfill it, but add fluid level just below the \u201cadd\u201d label
